2 Cebuanos claim spot in Philippine’s most outstanding entrepreneurs list
One of the prime reasons why Cebu has been considered as the thriving business in the Philippines is its overall availability of entrepreneurs that has continued to provide excellence in the commerce industry. This has been what’s going on with Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue, a world-renowned and multi-awarded furniture designer, and Mr. Edmun Liu, chief executive officer of Basic Graphics Inc., or BGI.
These names might have sound familiar to you and if you think you already stumbled on this name a long time ago, then it just shows how well-established these gentlemen are.
For one, these two Cebuanos have been included in the recent Entrepreneur Philippines issue, honoring the 10 Most Outstanding Entrepreneurs of the Philippines for their “excellence in the field of business and entrepreneurship. This goes to show that Cebuanos clearly has the ability to provide innovative service and products not only in the national scene but also in the international level as well.
Other than just the familiar names, here’s a bit of background for the two gentlemen:
Mr. Edmun Liu
I’m definitely familiar with this gentleman right here since, aside from being the head of leading printing companies in both Visayas and Mindanao, my father works in one of his factories which include Oxygen, Penshoppe, Forme and memo. Among those four businesses, Penshoppe was the evident success from its foundation in the year 1996.
Mr. Liu’s Basic Graphic Inc. was reportedly the first company in Cebu to acquire the latest computer-to-plate technology, hence, providing innovative designs to its clients that ranges from resorts, exporters, five-star hotels and others. Aside from that, BGI also received a handful of awards like the Print Excellence Awards given by the Printing Industry Association of the Philippines in the years 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and September of this year in two major categories.
Kenneth Cobonpue
I first saw Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue on TV when his excellently-designed furniture was featured on this certain program. Much to my delight, his work has already established absolute recognition nationally and internationally and has even attracted Hollywood celebrities like Brad Pitt.
Mr. Cobonpue also manages his family’s furniture business, Interior Crafts of the Islands Inc. and has been doing a very good job into establishing it as the premiere furniture firm here in the Philippines. Upon that, he also received major designs like the 2002 Golden Shell Award and Design for Asia Award in 2005.
Presently, Mr. Cobonpue shares his insights and ideas at the University of the Philippines-Cebu and is also a member of the organization called Movement 8, which is an alliance of the best Filipino designers that aims to make the Philippines the Asian version of Milan, or the Milan of Asia, that is.
