Museo Sugbo: From jailhouse to a heritage site

Cebu is a tourist destination not only because of its beaches but also for its rich cultural heritage, and Museo Sugbo is one of the places to know more about this heritage and a part of Cebu’s history. Located at MJ Cuenco Ave, this museum used to be the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), the home of the world-famous dancing inmates. Its even older and original name was Carcel de Cebu, built in the 1870s as a jailhouse in the Visayas.

Fun and adventure need not to be expensive, and that is true at Papa Kit’s Marina and Fishing Lagoon in Liloan, Cebu. With only PhP100.00 as the entrance and is even consumable for foods and beverages in its restaurants inside the facility, it is unbelievably affordable.

But the main things that keep its visitors coming are the zipline and the fishing lagoon. For PhP200.00, experience an 800-meter zipline that crosses another islet and back. Fishing enthusiasts come in their gear and rods as they make way to the ponds of bangus and tilapia. The catch can be cooked by the in-house restaurant at more than PhP100.00 per kilo.

Resorts are not just limited to the ones that are situated near the beach. There is also such a thing as a mountain resort. This is another option for vacationers who want something different rather than the famous white sandy beach.

The Terraces At Ayala Center Cebu

1

It was about a couple of year ago when Ayala Center Cebu closed down the lagoon side for reconstruction. Unlike other renovations or reconstructions from other establishments around town, this had the element of surprise tagging along it. It was covered from every inch, so that mall goers would ask about what’s really going on at that side of the mall as they pass by and as they remember the old look of the lagoon, which some people wished to see again. That new part was named the “The Terraces”, and that’s just about the only information people knew.

As time passed mall goers got used to that covered construction site and became more eager to see the results. When the big day came, I happen to be at the Ayala Center without any hint that it was the unraveling of “The Terraces”.
