Rizal Memorial Library and Museum

Rizal Memorial Library and Museum
Our national hero Jose Rizal has always been in the hearts of every Filipino, and the Cebuanos do count on that. Cebu itself dedicated an establishment for the Filipino hero located at the heart of the metropolis. For years, this has been the spot for the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum, which is also in front of the equally historic area of Osmena Boulevard, where a high volume of traffic and people gives it life.
The historical landmarks like the Capitol building, Boljoon Church and others have taken their part into molding such culture into the lives of every Cebuano. The Rizal Memorial Library Museum has kept itself afloat for years and has remained as one of the most important components in the flourishing Cebu. It also keeps important information about Cebu’s history, culture and stories since the rare books are located on its upper floor for reference. continue reading » »

Cebu Churches: Boljoon Church
Cebu Churches: Boljoon Church
Heritage is an important part in a Cebuano’s life, partly because these heritages combine the most significant parts of Cebu history as well as its role into molding the Cebuano culture. Other than that, icons and people also contribute to this development. Of course one of the things that will make this heritage stay longer is the structures that have been standing for decades.
We’ve known the oldest school, the oldest house, the oldest business building and others. And for this, the Boljoon Church has been standing in the southern part of Cebu for centuries to be known as one of the oldest existing stone-built churches. For a long time now, the people living around it have become accustomed to paying tribute into its patroness, Nuestra Senora Patrocinio de Maria. continue reading » »

Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort

Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort
Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort is, by far, the most memorable place for me. This is because back when I was in my second year in college, our department's annual acquaintance party was held here. It was a hell of a party indeed in what could've been the first and the last acquaintance party that me and my friends have attended.
Fast forward today, the Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort is still considered as one of the most faved resorts in Cebu. I love their swimming pool. I love their food, especially their seafood salads. Plus, we had their islet for hours for that wet and wild party. Well, that's where memories are founded. continue reading » »

Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary

Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary
I do fantasize about just getting away from it all and just take a dip in one of the most sophisticated resorts in Cebu. I wanted to try diving so much but I would prefer snorkeling just to see those colorful corals and fishes just minding their own businesses. Speaking of snorkeling, the Shangri-La Marine Sanctuary just opened last month. Well, better late than never, right?
After six months of shutdown for the fishes and corals to recover, a ceremonial dive at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort back in September 1 was organized. I apologize for the late news but again, it’s better than passé. continue reading » »

Cebu: A Brief History (Part 2 of 2)
Cebu today
As I’ve mentioned during the past week, Cebu now ranks as the 4th location in business process outsourcing and there’s still more to come. Its 33,000-hectare region is composed of three cities together with the other six municipalities. The population of a million-plus is combined of Filipinos that have Chinese, European and American influences. The long-time vernacular of Bisaya or Cebuano is the prevailing dialect in this region. However, the national language Tagalog and international language, English, is widely spoken.
