Cebu Birds
->
With Cebu's growing population and subdivisions indiscriminately sprouting everywhere, even clearing the remaining pocket forests where several exotic animals thrive, one would never thought of finding some of Cebu's elusive exotic birds. And I did right at my own backyard. The block next to our house is an empty lot with some thick vegetation that flourished and for quite sometime undisturbed by humans. It is protected by human excursion because a perimeter fence was built perhaps by the owner who might someday want use the space for commercial purposes.
Here's how I was able to know these birds. While I was doing some errands I have noticed some of them frolicking on the lush vegetation looking for food. So I took my video camera and capture few of their activities. I have observed about four species of birds that use the area for food hunting and mating. I have never seen most these birds in my whole life not till now. Of the four, I only knew one and it is named “Maya” in our dialect. I almost forgot to mention that some bats also frequent the area at night.
Here are some of the footage of the birds that I hope some people will help me identify what kind of birds they are and the “specie” they belong to;

How I wish I could buy the property and turn it into a sort of a sanctuary for these lovely creatures. The God's creatures that we have neglected and uncared for in the name of development. I am maybe a dreamer but I'm not the only one.
