Cebu-Kenya trade talks now on
Exploring options can be a daunting task when it comes to business development but I don’t think that’s going to be a problem especially when a city like Cebu is thriving in terms of commerce and trade.
Recently, Philippine Ambassador to Kenya, Ma. Rosario Janolo expressed interest in expanding the trade and investments of Filipino companies in Kenya and along the regions of the East African countries. I may not know something about trading preferences but getting involve into such option would definitely set something for the future. After all, the trade between the Philippines and Kenya has grew to $4.4 million last year compared to the $1 million back in the year 2005.
Such products that were involved in the trading relations include construction materials, consumer electronics and publishing and printing materials. These are just some of the features that the Philippines can offer. Cebu, for the most part, can become the major trade partner for Kenya as well as the rest of East Africa.
Import-wise, the Philippines have lessened the amount of the products brought into the country from Kenya to a rough $3.3 million in the year 2005 to $919,649 last year.
Exports
Some of the exported products from Kenya are the sisal and inorganic chemicals which are imported by Philippine companies. These products comprise the overall number of $1.2 million in contrast to the import value of $50, 749 as of August 2007 according to the Bureau of Export Trade Promotion.
Such trading value will hope to be issued soon since Kenyan Minister of Trade and Industry Mukhisa Kituyi has expressed comments in signing the proposed Philippines-Kenya Bilateral Agreement. This should provide certain options for both parties to engage in for strong a trade relationship.
