Cebu Restaurants: Rico’s al Trattoria

Cebu Restaurants: Rico’s al Trattoria

How I love eating Italian food! It’s actually one of my top 3 favorites on my list next to, of course, Filipino food. There’s a sense of patriotism though but what can I say? Lechon, humba and others are indeed sumptuous. Italian food is a different taste and it sticks into my mind… and my cravings.

One of the Italian food outlets that I’ve tried dining at is Rico’s la Trattoria. This is where Rico Matta, a transplanted Italian as well as the proprietor of the restaurant, displays his own Italian recipe. Rico’s playground could certainly be another description for it whenever he gives his own idea of pasta and pizza treats. This adheres to the quote, “Ask thousands of Italians to cook pizza or lasagna and they’ll end up cooking thousands of different flavors.”

One dish, thousands of flavors. Now that is enticing to taste those diverse recipes.

Italian style

The authenticity of Italian cooking does apply to this kind of idea since like most Italian guys, Rico Matta praises his mother like a fat kid not living a day without his cake. He shares that, for years, he has learned a lot from his mother’s cooking and most of the dishes that are served at Rico’s la Trattoria are from his mother’s version. And like most Italians do, he often opts to make his own cooking of pasta and dough. Rico doesn’t dig into marketable sauces since he makes his own sauces from scratch and that’s indeed a plus when it comes to Italian cooking. Homemade, that would be a keyword in Rico’s la Trattoria’s kitchen.

Food

Let’s take a break from those other restaurants that specialize in pizza making.

At Rico’s al Trattoria, pizza is essentially where you can choose your own topping (this is fun!). It basically starts with the cheese pizza with that authentic mozzarella cheese. Customers can pick their own toppings from pepperoni, ham, and onions to bacon, peppers, mushrooms and others. However, customers may also want to decide if they want their pizza to be crispy or not.

Pasta at Rico’s la Trattoria basically gives that homemade impression by the way Rico choose to make it by the method of pasta machine and is, at all times, cooked al dente. Enough with the occasional fettuccini ala carbonara as well as the popular Bolognese (both of which are also available), Rico’s la Trattoria introduces the slightly larger type of ravioli, the Raviolotti.

Meanwhile, Rico also has his marinated pork enriched in brown sauce and the type of dish that I really want to try again. The taste really sticks. The gnocchi, on the other hand, with its rich and thick cream sauce is also on my list.

Aside from its authentic Italian food, Rico’s la Trattoria also has live music on most evenings and also has an outdoor dining area if you want it al fresco. This is, of course, describes a welcoming tradition to

Cebu
City’s dining and entertainment setting that will certainly give the Cebuanos another option on their day to day dining experience.
