Cebu Schools: USC and USJ-R
For years, University of San Carlos and University of San Jose-Recoletos were, somehow, linked to one another like those certain humors which you already heard about. Anyway, I won’t delve into that matter; instead, I’m going to talk about how these two became two of the few much respected and reputable universities in Cebu.
University of San Carlos
Since its foundation in 1569, University of San Carlos has cemented their way into the top level by serving as a Catholic learning institution and has maintained that overall high standard of education. Needless to say anything about quality education but, for me, this institution has already gone past the quality to excellence and superiority.
Simply put in some of its major statistics:
· University of San Carlos ranks as the fourth best institution in the Philippines in the College of Law category
· Recognized as the hub of quality in terms of Teacher Education and Chemistry
· The center of major development when it comes in the field of Marine Biology, Accountancy and Business Administration, Physics, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mathematics and Civil Engineering
Moreover, in the next few years, University of San Carlos will include several courses like Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a major in Acturial Science and Operations Research (this one sounds good indeed), Master of Architecture majoring in Architectural Science, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design and Human Resource Development Management.
Along the way, the list of available courses in University of San Carlos would certainly reach more than 50 and, yes, 100 courses is not impossible.
University of San Jose-Recoletos
The birth of Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos would entail a bright future. This would then develop into a university, hence, becoming University of San Jose-Recoletos in the year 1984. Since then, USJ-R remains steadfast as ever in its dedication to provide quality education and globally competitive hopefuls through Christian conduct.
For me, USJ-R, would be the darkhorse when it comes to the schools of Cebu. They have proven enough dedication into establishing their foundation as the center of development in the field of Information Technology as well as Business and Management Education. Also, USJ-R gives out their “2 cents” with the core excellence in both Teacher Education and as the Best Expanded Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program Implementor for the year 2006-07.
Whew, as if that’s not all, USJ-R continues to propel into new heights with their latest programs that include Master of Arts in Education majoring in Guidance and Counseling, Doctor of Philosophy in English and Master of Media Studies that concentrates in Broadcast Media and Journalism.
Along with those lines of courses available, USJ-R delivers a new dimension into Cebu schools with their provision of infrastructures and effective facilities that will cater to learning, hence, the rise buildings such as the St. Ezekiel Moreno Building, Recoletos Law Center, Nursing Skills Laboratory, among others.
So, I guess that sums up the top universities and colleges in Cebu for now but I bet those institutions that I haven’t mentioned would certainly excel in all departments and continue the legacy of providing quality education here in Cebu.
