As a fund raising project, Cebu-based organization Tsinelas Association, Inc. presents the First Tsinelas Songwriting Workshop to be held on May 8-10, 2009 at St. Theresa’s College, Cebu City.

The workshop will cover the topics melody writing, lyric writing, musical arrangement, and recording. It is in first come first served basis, accommodating only 25 people to participate. Invited speakers for the 1st Tsinelas Songwriting Workshop are:

Jude Gitamondoc

Jude Gitamondoc is an awarded musician who has written songs Gary Valenciano, Ariel Rivera, Raki Vega, to mention a few. He had also written musicales which were played in Cebu such as Siddhartha and Song of Bernadette. Jude Gitamondoc has won several songwriting competitions in the Philippines and abroad; for example are Cebu Popular Music Festival and Venerable Master Hsin Yun Songwriting Contest held in Taiwan.

Ian Zafra

Ian Zafra had produced albums for his band (where he plays the guitar) Shiela and the Insects. He was awarded Guitarist of the Year in the 2001 San Miguel Beer (SMB) Music Awards. In 2002, Zafra was the resource speaker for a songwriting workshop of the organization End Child Prostitution and Trafficking (ECPAT) Philippines. The British Council had also awarded Ian Zafra as Young Music Entrepreneur for 2005.

John Brian Sia Sacro

John Brian Sia Sacro is the present Partner Managing Director of Kalye Musika, a marketing and events group dedicated to create or give avenues for artists to promote their skills. He is also a part-owner of 1318 Recording Studio and works as Recording and Mixing Engineer. He won Bassist of the Year in the 2000 and 2001 SMB Music Awards.

Cattski Espina

Cattski Espina is a musician, singer, and songwriter who had also produced albums for her band. She had written songs for acoustic band MYMP. Her song “High and Low” won the Song of the Year and she was awarded Vocalist of the Year in the SMB Music Awards for 2001.

Registration fee for the Tsinelas Songwriting Workshop is PhP 1,500 inclusive of speakers’ honoraria, venue rental, workshop kits, snacks, and school supplies for Tsinelas beneficiaries. Tsinelas Association, Inc. is a non-government organization that “provides assistance to poor students in depressed areas in Cebu by ensuring that the formation they receive covers all aspects of the children’s growth and development”.

   kuyawa gud ani tsinelas song writing hihihi why is it that it is entitled tsinelas song writing? Do you have any idea? Just curious, maybe its because tsinelas is one of the favorite game of little cebuanos “tsinelasay” or “tsinelas game” I just remember my younger days hehehe thanks to your post its informative guys visita pd mo diri salamat

   Tsinelas is a Cebu-based organization (as stated in the second to the last paragraph of the article)which organized this event, primarily to raise funds.
