Flowers Galore in Cebu

As far as I know, flowers are abundant mostly in the February-celebration Valentine’s Day. This is about flowers that are sold in the streets of Cebu, malls and other establishments. This is indeed the time for Cebuanos to be “un-shy” when they buy flowers for their loved ones because this is the period where almost every corner of
Cebu has flowers for sale.

However, Valentine’s Day is not just the only flower-giving celebration of the year here in the Philippines; the November 1 or 2 holidays are also in favor of involving flowers in the observance of the All Soul’s Day. This is so since people flock together in the cemeteries to spend time with their departed loved ones. But before they start hanging out on the tombs, they must see to it that they have food, shelter and, of course, flowers or gifts to offer for the deceased.

This goes to show that not only flowers are for the living but also for those who have left the world in the essence of memory, love and respect. Flowers in

A nice thoroughfare in the
Cebu streets, a lot of flower vendors continue to gather in the vicinity of P. Lopez Street (located right beside the USJ-R campus) to cater the needs for those consumers who are way past their cemetery visits. Well, technically, November would be the last day to celebrate Halloween here and frequent rush is no stranger. Celebrations like these are often encountered with “tight” situations wherein people would have to squeeze into the crowd to get the most out of the best products, like flowers, at a bargain price. Haggling is the most common technique to get the things you like, especially when there are a lot of people who wants to buy the same stuff. For example, a 100-peso worth bouquet will eventually comedown to the price of 60-70 pesos for almost 10-15 minutes of “haggle-ship”. That’s just indeed the part that most people like here in
Cebu.

Other than the flower stores in the streets of
Cebu, malls and flower shops are still the convenient places if one doesn’t want to mix with other people. However, wet markets or makeshift stalls like the ones in the Carbon area are fit for occasions like we have today.

Surveying, asking for prices and haggling are just some of the techniques used when it comes to buying flowers here in
Cebu. One has to find out which one of these stalls puts down the defense and braces for more pocket-easy solutions to those budget-limited customers. Of course, flower vendors don’t just easily crumble when it comes to down-pricing since they also have their own techniques. That, I don’t know.

The bottom line is survey, make a list and shop wisely; just some of the most common methods that we know but are still very effective up to date.
