Good morning in Cebuano and other expressions
Filipinos in general are known for being hospitable – consequently are the Cebuanos. While the people of Cebu are not expecting in return for such hospitality, a sociable response for the friendly welcome will be highly appreciated. Much more if you take effort in learning the basic greetings and expressions the locals use.

Here are some common Cebuano greetings that you may want to use when visiting the beautiful islands of Cebu.
Maayong buntag – is good morning in Cebuano; maayo is for “good” while buntag is for “morning”
Maayong udto – Good noon
Maayong hapon – Good afternoon
Maayong gabii – Good evening
Maayong adlaw – Good day
Kumusta or Kumusta ka? – Literally means “how are you” but is also used as hello. Kumusta is also a common greeting in the Philippines as a whole; it is taken from the Spanish expression como estas.
Maayo man – is the expected response to kumusta. It means “I’m fine”.
Salamat – Thank you.
Wala’y sapayan – Don’t mention it.
Palihug – Please.
Pag-amping or Pag-ayo-ayo – The traditional way of saying “take care”. Nowadays, Cebuanos simply say “Amping” or “Ayo-ayo”.
Those are some simple words that you can use when you pay a visit. That should make you say more than just “good morning” in Cebuano. So, “magkita-kita ta diri sa Sugbo!” That means, see you here in Cebu!
