Most of the global targeted business opportunities are focused entirely in the city of Cebu. But it’s actually good to hear that some other parts of Cebu are also focused in giving more opportunities for the tourism industry to flourish, particularly in Agujo, Daanbantayan, Cebu.
The proposed construction of a P30-million worth air strip on the area is made official by Rep. Benhur Salimbangon just this week to incite tourism activities in northern Cebu, expanding a major move that would certainly make things more interesting.
During Rep. Salimbangon’s interview, he stated that this proposed northern Cebu air strip will highlight a suitable travel time for tourists who wants to experience a whole new flavor on their trip to seeing new sights. This dramatically improves the accessibility of the area by air and, thus, would make a major step in making business entrepreneurs continue their hunt for opportunities.
Presently, the local government unit (LGU) is discussing with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to provide a master plan of the said northern Cebu air strip for tourism development on the area. After all, a 15 hectare-air strip should initialize steps that will complement possible tourism areas in the municipality.

With this northern Cebu air strip, the usual three-hour land travel to Daanbantayan from Cebu will be trimmed down to a more convenient time of 15 minutes by air. Rep. Salimbangon also added that, while the Cebu Transaxial Development Project connects northern Cebu and the metropolis, some tourists would actually go for a decreased travel time.
More importantly, he also added that the northern Cebu air strip need not be of “first-class quality” but should be good enough to accommodate 12-seater to 16-seater aircrafts or chartered flights.
Investing in northern Cebu
For what I believe in, this project delivers a huge promise to Daanbantayan’s economic and tourism industry. More importantly, the proposed northern Cebu air strip will entice possible investors that would think about putting resorts, hotels and facilities.
For one, the MSY Holdings Corporation has begun constructing Kandaya in Daanbantayan, which is foreseen as a five-star or six-star boutique hotel. With this, other investors would certainly get involved and would mark a dramatic change for Daanbantayan as well as for the whole Cebu as well.
