University of San Jose-Recoletos: Always Forward

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) is one of the prime universities in the province of Cebu and was founded in 1947. It is a Catholic institution run by the Order of Augustinian Recollects or OAR. It has three campuses: the Main Campus located at Magallanes Street, Cebu City; Basak Campus, Cebu South Road, Basak, Pardo; and the newly established Balamban Campus in Barangay Arpili, Balamban, (southern) Cebu.

Being recognized as one of the best schools offering business, engineering, arts and sciences, nursing, and computer degree programs, USJ-R is also a choice of parents and students from Leyte, Bohol, Samar, Surigao, and other places within Visayas and Mindanao.

Aside from outstanding academic records, University of San Jose-Recoletos is also proud of its student-oriented organizations and activities that help in the holistic formation of its learners. Two major collegiate organizations include:

FORWARD Publication, the Official Collegiate Publication started in 1947. They publish semestral magazines, SOLSTICE summer issues, and other supplementary issues like the Mitna: Literary Folio and FORWARD: On the Move. It is composed of thirteen student journalists (editors, writers, layout artists, and a photographer). FORWARD is said to be the first to be granted of campus press freedom among schools in Cebu.

Supreme Student Council is the student governing body: Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor) and the House of Representatives (five from each college). It is aimed to mold future leaders in the society by representing the entire studentry of their rights, privileges, and other concerns.

There are also student associations in every department addressing and catering for specific academics and extra-curricular endeavors.

Founded by its religious principles and supported by its openness to the heed for quality education, it is the mission of the University of San Jose-Recoletos to prepare graduates to meet the needs and challenges of the local and global community. As Josenians would put it, Adelante (to mean “go forward”)!
