USS Cebu
I bet you did not know that there was once a US battle ship named after Cebu during World War II. USS Cebu (ARG-6), an internal combustion engine repair ship was commissioned on April 15, 1944 under Captain G. W. Scott. USS Cebu was once stationed at Manus, Admiralty Islands from September 10, 1944 and help prepare ships for the assaults on Leyte, Luzon and later Iwo Jima. It was moved to Ulithi on January 22, 1945 and then to San Pedro Bay, Cebu. I do not know where this particular place now. Anyway, USS Cebu was specially busy repairing ships hit by Kamikazee planes. In one occasion USS Cebu was showered with burning debris when a nearby ammunition ship was hit and exploded.
I guess there are a lot of historical facts relating to Cebu that have long been forgotten or we just simply neglect. I have only learned about this when when I saw an Ebay posting of pictures about USS Cebu at the Ebay Items section of this site. Somebody or someone from the government perhaps should bid for these photographs for history sake and for the next Cebuano generation to come. We should never forget what our history has taught us.
